What If Your Symptoms Are Actually Unspoken Truths?

By

Why do so many of us feel physically exhausted while living lives we supposedly chose?

Over the past twenty years, I have had the privilege of sitting with thousands of people during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

When people begin reflecting on their health and their journeys, something interesting happens. Very few people tell me they regret working too little. Very few people regret spending too much time with the people they loved.

The regrets always sound very different.

“I knew I should have… I always wanted to… I wish I had spoken up… I kept thinking there would be more time.”

That has caused me to reflect on something I believe many of us quietly experience.

Perhaps our deepest regrets are not born from making the wrong decisions. Perhaps they are born from repeatedly abandoning what we already knew was true.

Please hear me when I say: you are NOT broken, and it is not your imagination, but we have to remember that your symptoms are simply communication from the body. When we stay silent when our hearts long to speak, our physical biology absorbs the shock.

We postpone the trip, delay the dream, and convince ourselves that someday life will slow down. I do not believe most people lose themselves all at once; I think it happens one small decision at a time. One truth left unspoken, one boundary never set, one quiet whisper from the heart answered with, “Maybe later.”

Over time, we become so skilled at talking ourselves out of what we truly desire that we begin believing the life we are living is the only one available to us.

But you cannot create beyond your current identity.

This quiet, continuous betrayal creates a profound physical toll, often leading to HPA Axis Dysfunction, which is essentially like driving your car with the emergency brake on, completely exhausting your nervous system.

You might notice this emotional suppression showing up physically as:

  • Unexplained bloating or digestive distress: Because your gut holds onto unspoken emotions and stress.
  • Chronic fatigue: Feeling like you are “running on half a brain” no matter how much you sleep.
  • Sleep disruptions: Your subconscious desperately trying to process the truths you ignored during the day.
  • A low-level hum of anxiety: The physical friction of mistaking practicality for wisdom, and fear for responsibility.

But there is a beautiful pivot to hope here, and real answers are within your reach. Our deepest knowing never disappears; it simply waits, faithfully, for the moment we are finally willing to listen again.

Over the past several weeks, I have had the privilege of speaking with women from all over the country who have chosen to join us for The Heart’s Return retreat this September. None of them described their decision as finally becoming convinced, instead, they described it as finally trusting what they had quietly known all along. They did not need more information. They needed to stop talking themselves out of what their hearts already knew.

My heart is so full having created a space where we stop abandoning ourselves. This is a space where there is nothing to prove, nothing to perform, and nothing more to become.

Today is my invitation to notice where, in your own life, you have been postponing something your heart has been quietly asking of you.

If this resonates, and that invitation leads you to the mountains this September, I can’t wait to welcome you into this curated, loving community where we can just breathe and embody our true sovereignty.

When you’re ready, you can explore the details of our time together here.

Maybe your heart leads you somewhere entirely different, and that is wonderful, too. Either way, my deepest hope is that you stop betraying your own knowing, because I have come to believe that the life we long for is rarely found by becoming someone else.

More often, it is found the moment we finally begin listening to who we have always been.

With love,

Dr. Elena Villanueva
