Take a moment to look outside at your garden this month. Plants are slowing down, not dying, but conserving energy. Leaves fall, perennials retreat into their roots, and the soil begins to rest. It’s a time of recalibration, not weakness.
Your body often mirrors these shifts.
October can bring changes in energy, appetite, sleep, and even emotional tone. If you’re noticing more cravings, increased fatigue, or a tendency to withdraw socially, there may be a biological reason, not just a psychological one.
During this time of year, our internal systems can begin falling out of sync with the natural rhythms that once guided us, especially when modern life keeps us running on screens, artificial lighting, and overextended schedules.
Fortunately, making gentle shifts in light exposure, nourishment, and daily routines may help restore balance as we move deeper into the season.
Recalibrating with the Season: A Gentle Reset
Fall doesn’t require an overhaul. Small, intentional changes, grounded in circadian biology and ancestral patterns, can support your nervous system, mood, and rest.
1. Step Into the Morning Light
Our internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm, is largely regulated by light. Morning exposure to natural light plays a vital role in:
Suppressing melatonin (to help you feel more alert)
Supporting serotonin production (which helps regulate mood)
Stabilizing cortisol levels (which influence energy and stress)
What to try:
If possible, spend a few minutes outdoors within 30–60 minutes of waking. Even overcast skies provide the full-spectrum light your body uses to regulate itself. This one shift may positively influence your energy, mood, and sleep quality.
2. Try a “Digital Sunset” in the Evenings
Before electric lighting, the absence of daylight served as a signal to your body to wind down. Today, exposure to screens and artificial lights well into the evening can delay melatonin production and interfere with rest.
What to try:
Start by dimming lights after sunset. Power down screens 30–60 minutes before bed if you’re able, and consider replacing them with calming rituals, light stretching, reading, journaling, or simply quiet time. These cues can help your body prepare for rest without forcing it.

When fall arrives, the world around us transforms. The air turns crisp, evenings arrive earlier, and the trees begin their slow, colorful change. Just as the season shifts, our bodies often ask for subtle changes too—a little more light, a little more nourishment, and a gentler path to rest.
Think of it as a seasonal reset: not a massive overhaul, but small rituals that keep your mind, body, and energy steady through shorter days and longer nights. Here are three ways to realign yourself with the rhythm of fall.
Morning Ritual: Step Into the Light
One of the most powerful ways to support your mood and energy is to begin the day with natural light.
Within 30–60 minutes of waking, step outside if possible.
Spend 5–10 minutes in the sunlight, walking, stretching, or simply breathing deeply.
Try a calming breath pattern: inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 6 seconds.
Tip: Morning light helps reset your body’s circadian rhythm, boosts serotonin for mood, and stabilizes energy for the day ahead. Even on cloudy days, natural light is more effective than any lamp.
Midday Nourishment: The Mood-Balancing Autumn Bowl
As daylight shortens, it’s common to crave more carbs. Instead of resisting, choose foods that support serotonin and energy while keeping blood sugar steady.
Recipe (serves 2. Use organic and/or grass-fed when possible.)
1 cup cooked quinoa or brown rice
6 oz grilled wild-caught salmon (or turkey/chicken)
1 cup roasted Brussels sprouts
½ cup roasted sweet potato cubes
A handful of spinach or kale
Dressing: lemon juice + tahini + garlic + pinch of sea salt
Tip: Pairing protein with complex carbs not only nourishes neurotransmitters like serotonin, but also keeps energy and mood more stable throughout the afternoon and evening.

Ingredients:
6 cups of fruit – combine sliced apples, peaches, and mixed berries
1 cup almond flour
½ cup Swerve brown sugar
½ cup sliced almonds (you can also sub in pecans or walnuts)
6 tablespoons room temperature grassfed butter
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Coconut oil
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Line the bottom and sides of a 13×9 glass baking dish with coconut oil. Spread the fruit in an even layer in the dish.
Combine the soft butter, almond flour, Swerve brown sugar, sliced almonds (or other nuts), and almond extract in a large bowl. Use your hands to combine the ingredients into a crumble.
Spread the crumble mixture over the fruit and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 35 minutes or until the crisp is browned and bubbling.
Enjoy with non dairy whipped topping or gluten free coconut milk ice cream.

Get help from our functional nutrition coaches who understand that there is no ONE diet that is right for everyone. Our nutrition coaches work hand in hand with our biological coaches so if you need any lab work done or specific protocols that would require supplement protocols, you have a team working on your behalf and your nutrition coach would make recommendations for which other team coaches would be able to help you.
Your coaches will teach and empower you to learn how to determine and navigate your diet modifications which are decided based on your extensive intake forms, history, and your lab data that your coaches may want to order for you. Based on all of this information, they will teach you what foods to eat and not eat according to various conditions and why.
Your functional nutrition coach will help you learn what substitutes you can use when there are certain foods you may need to stop eating for a period of time, how to put your meals together based on your dietary needs per your lab data, how and when to incorporate gut repair protocols, and what lifestyle modifications you want to address based on your labs and your health conditions.
Nutritional coaching can be a great tool by itself or combined with coaching from our biological coaches. You can schedule with either our biological or nutrition coaches and they can help you get started and make recommendations as needed.

Breathwork is more than just a simple exercise of intentional breathing. Specialized breathwork techniques are used to facilitate major transformation and healing by encompassing a wide range of therapeutic practices that are extremely powerful in providing immediate relief for pulling people out of fight or flight (the amygdala hijack we teach about in Part 2 of our Mastering Trauma Masterclass).
This vagus nerve activation through breath work activates the rest/digest (parasympathetic nervous system), stimulates healing, reduces blood pressure, reduces the cortisol stress response, regulates hormone and blood glucose activity, and heart rate variability (the biological stress response). It rewires the body for self-regulation of the nervous system in a manner that optimizes the body and creates resilience in times of stress.
Yoga breath therapy allows you to disconnect from the mind chatter, mind racing, and negative self-talk and reconnect with your body your energy. From this elevated state of awareness, you are able to facilitate healing, growth, and expansion.
