If you are the kind of person who likes a list to work on self-improvement, then this top-10 breakdown is for you. Even if you feel pretty good about life, here are some tips to enrich it and embrace it further.
After all, who doesn’t want to have more smiles, family time, and restorative peace?
Remember the joy of running around outside as a kid? When do we lose that and begin to see exercise as a chore? Having a functional and active body is a great gift for which you should be grateful. Ideally, you should move for at least 30 minutes per day, five day per week. If that’s a challenge, do three 10-minute segments and enjoy the breaks in your routine.
Exercise pumps you full of great hormones and gives you a sense of accomplishment when you end your sweat session. It lowers stress and eases depression. It can also make you look slimmer, which should brighten your day as well.
Not only does sleep restore your energy and lead to more even moods, but it also sharpens your mind, so you get more done and have better memory retention. That frees up your brain and your schedule.
Overnight, your hippocampus sifts through your good or neutral memories while your amygdala works on the negative ones. When you toss and turn, your hippocampus doesn’t function as well, so you wake up with the dark moments at the forefront of your mind. That sets you up each morning primed to perceive and react to more negative stimuli than positive ones. You can do a quick reset with a nap, but it’s better to have a full night of restful sleep. Then you can face the morning with a fresh, sunny outlook.
Reveling in the company of beloved friends and family members is one of the great joys in life. Don’t let time slip away without phone calls, visits, and video chats with the key people in your life, no matter how busy you get. The comfort level of being in the presence of trusted confidantes is a powerful antidote for the toxins in the world.
The more friends you have in middle age, the more you will thrive in later life as long as you stay in close contact with siblings and other long-time buddies. A healthy marriage or romantic partnership is also key to this equation. Those bonds make us feel safe and loved, plus it helps to have a ‘shorthand’ of cultural references and experiences with our peers.
Exposure to nature – its skies, sounds, and scents – make us feel alive and connected to the world around us. That is why forest bathing is so good for our souls. A mere 20 minutes outdoors fires up your brain and your mood.
If you go from bed to a car to a cubicle and back again, you are depriving yourself of one of the greatest free gifts in life. Go for a walk on your lunch hour or break. Stop at a park on the way home. Listen to the birds. Feel the sunlight on your face or grass between your toes. Give yourself a longer outing on weekends for an extra shot of joy.

You know you should get away from your desk and up off your couch more often. But it is so easy to stay settled indoors, entertained by games, shows, and movies.
But just like the need to clean your skin cells, your brain benefits from forest bathing on a regular basis. Yes, not only does getting outside help your muscles become stronger and more limber, but your outlook on the world also gets a refresh as well.
As more and more of us move to urban centers and spend our days inside buildings, we instinctively miss the sunlight, scents, and sights of the outdoors. It’s probably a safe bet that you spend more time looking at your smartphone than any outdoor landscape. It’s an easy trap to fall into.
But breaking out of that trap is not only easy, it’s vital for your health.
Compared to other mental health measures, forest bathing is super simple to embrace. You essentially have to show up and slow down. However, there are a few steps that enhance your experience:
You don’t need to venture far into the backwoods to recharge your senses. You just want to seek out a place with a natural setting where you are not bombarded with man-made sounds or other stimuli. It could be a forest or a park near your home. Perhaps you have a fabulous garden that offers a suitable respite. If you need to drive to a spot, perhaps getting out of the house and having time alone in the car to get there can be part of the mental journey. Do what is right for you. Just make sure you will be treated to greenery when you get there.
Simply walk through a forest slowly, while breathing deeply and engaging all your senses. Listen for leaves rustling in a breeze; smell the moss and the musky soil; look at the colors of the leaves and flowers; reach out and touch the rough bark of the tree. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Drink in every element around you and feel yourself relax to a deeper level. Allow yourself to experience any emotion that arises from joy, gratitude, to pent-up sadness. Breathe it all out with a few tears if that is what you need right now.
Don’t get hemmed in by going to the same place or a location chosen by someone else. If you want to sit in the sunshine near the floral beds down the street, treat yourself to that outing. If you need a shady respite since that suits your mood, then go for it. Listen to your body. Perhaps today you only need a 20-minute exposure to feel better, yet an hour feels inadequate on other days. Do what you need to do to feel better.

Our holistic biological health coaches have a deep understanding of advanced functional testing and genetics testing, along with much experience in complex cases.
Our biological coaching team works with you to empower and teach you how to understand and interpret your lab results, what your results mean, how they are connected to your health conditions or symptoms, and most importantly, what to do with the information, how to put protocols together based on your lab results, and when to reorder your various labs to track progress.

Your coaches will teach and empower you to learn how to determine and navigate your diet modifications which are decided based on your extensive intake forms, history, and your lab data that your coaches may want to order for you. Based on all of this information, they will teach you what foods to eat and not eat according to various conditions and why.
Your functional nutrition coach will help you learn what substitutes you can use when there are certain foods you may need to stop eating for a period of time, how to put your meals together based on your dietary needs per your lab data, how and when to incorporate gut repair protocols, and what lifestyle modifications you want to address based on your labs and your health conditions.

Breathwork is more than just a simple exercise of intentional breathing. Specialized breathwork techniques are used to facilitate major transformation and healing by encompassing a wide range of therapeutic practices that are extremely powerful in providing immediate relief for pulling people out of fight or flight (the amygdala hijack we teach about in Part 2 of our Mastering Trauma Masterclass).
This vagus nerve activation through breath work activates the rest/digest (parasympathetic nervous system), stimulates healing, reduces blood pressure, reduces the cortisol stress response, regulates hormone and blood glucose activity, and heart rate variability (the biological stress response). It rewires the body for self-regulation of the nervous system in a manner that optimizes the body and creates resilience in times of stress.
Yoga breath therapy allows you to disconnect from the mind chatter, mind racing, and negative self-talk and reconnect with your body your energy. From this elevated state of awareness, you are able to facilitate healing, growth, and expansion. And if you are looking for some expansion of your body/mind/spirit awareness, then this type of breathwork can be nourishing and can facilitate the next layer of peace, love, gratitude, connection, clarity, and insights.
